Work From Life with Christopher Dotson (Mondays 6:30-8:30pm) : Perfect for the established and learning artist alike, learn with as much or as little instruction as you’d like. Bring your own supplies and Eye Level Art supplies a nude model and easels. Members price $12.00, regular price $15.00.

Yoga with Harry Dinwiddie (Tuesdays 6:30-7:45pm) : Learn from Charleston yogi Harry Dinwiddie as he guides students through a vigorous, but beginner friendly work out. Never tried yoga before? Not a problem! Come with an open mind and enjoy the work out. $10 for Members, $13 for Non-Members

Movies on the 103 Green (April 14) : Your favorite out door movie series is back! Join Eye Level Art for a screening of Chocolat at the 103 Gallery. Bring your own bottle of wine or case of beer for a $5 corking fee and enjoy sweet treats from Wild Flour Pastry. Free admission and waived corking fees for Members. Tickets are $5 Doors at 8pm

Busy saving the city from the brick wall arm crossing and the casual head nods, Brooklyn’s own Body Language has risen from the DIY venue basements armed with the kinetic dynamite you would expect from the name. Their original music was born from weekly dance party remixes crafted by Merck Records artists Grant Wheeler and Matt Young, and graced by the soul stylings of Ms. Angelica Bess. Their efforts, which illustrate their arrival in Brooklyn, are delivered in a five track EP called “Speaks” now out on Moodgadget Records.

Since the EP release, Body Language has been burning holes in New York City dance floors appearing with the likes of Passion Pit, School of Seven Bells, Theophilus London, We Have Band, Ninjasonik and Jimmy Edgar. This beat-driven crusade continues with an appearance at the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival featuring the Juan McClean, Designer Drugs and 33 Hz. Listeners should also expect some wonderful contributions from the trio with the hit, “Work this City”, appearing on Ghostly International’s Nocturnal Suite, a free four-part ‘Influences’ DJ Set, as well as a “Speaks” Remix Compilation, featuring the likes of Toro y Moi and Machinedrum.

Originally coaxed to Brooklyn by fellow party-throwers, CassetteNYC and Percussionlab, Body Language quickly found a welcome soapbox from which they could yell loud and clear. Armed with synths, vocoder, glockenspiel, percussion, and three graceful voices, Body Language found themselves in demand at local events and parties. That demand extended beyond their own entity as a band, and they appeared as a live back up to Theophilus London dressed as ‘the Lovers’. Body Language also served as production collaborators with Passion Pit for the inception of their debut LP, Manners. Body Language cut their teeth in the remix department, appearing on Passion Pit’s “Chunk of Change” EP with a shimmering rendition of Sleepyhead (Landau Wake Up Mix) and Machinedrum’s “Late Night Operation” EP featuring Theophilus London. Seeking to up the ante on their 2008 performances, the trio joined forces with Mickey Factz/T. London backing drummer, Ian Chang, during the turn of this year. The resulting quartet made what seemed already a locomotive electronic outfit into a sonic freight train of a crossover indie act.

These four body linguists are currently drafting up a five-track demo based on songs that for now, exist only in their live performances.

Eye Level Art has whipped up a full roster of classes for Charleston this February. A little something for everyone whether it’s perfecting your artistic talents, stretching those legs with a little urban yoga or swinging your hips to the sounds of swing.

Work from Life : Relax and perfect your artistic talents on Monday evenings with Work from Life. A live nude model will be in the gallery for students to draw or paint as well as local artist Chris Dotson supplying as much or little instruction as students desire. Class meets each Monday night from 6:30 until 8:30. Students should bring their own materials, but easels are provided. Price is $15 for non-members, $12 for members.

Tuesday Night Yoga : Charleston yogi Harry Dinwiddie, who teaches at both the Mt. Pleasant and downtown Blue Turtle Yoga Studio, will teach a high intensity, but beginner friendly, yoga class at the 103 gallery each Tuesday night at 7:00 beginning on Feb. 16. These hour long evening classes will feature a new and hip playlist each week along with fun, intensive workout. Each week’s playlist will also be posted on the gallery’s blog. Class price is $12 for non-members and $10 for members. Tuesday Night Yoga will meet from 7-8pm.

Swing at 103 Spring : Didn’t pay attention during those social dance classes your parents made you suffer through in middle school? Find yourself awkwardly bobbing your head on the side of the dance floor? Dazzle your friends with the art of swing dance! Taught by a professional swing dance instructor, learn the steps and twirls of swing dance each Wednesday throughout February. Then, show off your new skills at the Swing Finale on Friday, Feb. 26. Dance and enjoy social dance games with a live swing band, Elise Testone and the Bootleg Band, at the 103 gallery. The Swing Finale will also feature a cash beer and wine bar. Interested couples may pay by the class or purchase the Swing Dance Package that includes all four classes plus the Swing Finale. All tickets for the classes are priced per couple. Class price is $30 per couple per class, and $40 per couple/$25 per single for the Swing Finale. The Swing Dance Package includes four classes and the swing dance finale for only $140 per couple. Class meets Wednesday February 3, 10, 17 and 24 from 7:30 until 8:30 with the Swing Finale on February 26 from 7:30 until 10:30.

We blame the trypophan for our blogging hiatus this past week. Thanksgiving is rough, you know.

But now it’s December and Eye Level Art has a whole bushel of events to keep your warm this Holiday season. Whether you’re celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Festivus or the Winter Solstice we’ve got plenty going on at the gallery this season to get you in the mood for holiday cheer.

Master Portraiture Class with Max Miller : Learn the techniques of portraiture with Max Miller in a six week master portraiture class at Eye Level Art. Max, who studied at the acclaimed Charles H. Cecil Studios in Florence, Italy, will teach you the very same methods he learned during his studies there. Learn methods that will last you a lifetime! Perfect for the budding and established artist, or anyone that wishes to expand their artistic knowledge.

• The six week class will be from 6:00 until 9:00 on Tuesdays beginning on December 15. The course will run through January 19, 2010.

Spring Street Pop Up Shop : Skip the malls this holiday season, and shop locally at Eye Level Art! The 103 gallery becomes the Spring Street Pop Up Shop. Locally made clothing and jewelry, furniture, hip knickknacks and housewares for everyone on your Nice List this December. Pick up the perfect gift…or maybe just treat yourself to something instead. The Good Karma Art Auction : Give the gift of art and get a warm fuzzy feeling while doing so.
